Chinese New & Antique Rug Gallery
The rugs and carpets of China are in complete contrast to those of the Persian world. Carpets in China were woven in organised workshops or factories - and the rug design had been completely conceived and formalized before weaving. Styles can best be attributed to those which developed under the patronage or received the favor of certain emperors or dynasties. Designs are generally Buddhist or Taoist in inspiration. The color range of the Chinese rug is limited, Primary red is rare as apricot, peach, blue and yellow were greatly favored.
